There is a wee band of Irish folk who play around the Shire – and nationally – tantalising all with the Traditional Irish Music. The 2018 event featured Mark Butler, Mary McEvilly-Butler, Willie McElroy and others.
On International Women’s Day in March, we celebrated our third successful year of operation. The sold-out luncheon at Beach (on the beach at Byron Bay) was enjoyed by all. One guest remarked “It is Byron Bay fundraising event of the year!” Mandy Nolan, renowned comedian was MC and auctioneer. Aine Tyrrel’s lyrical voice, songs and guitar entertained us through lunch. And Fay Jackson, General Manager of Inclusion at Flourish Australia, CEO of Vision In Mind, presented the key note address. Fay touched our hearts and our funny bone with her life story of challenge and change.
‘The “changes” Fay made in her life, and the contributions she has offered those she loves and the community, are examples of how we are usually capable of more than others expect from us and we can often achieve more than we expect of ourselves. We are far more likely to achieve these changes and contribute to our family and community if we have support, friendship and mentoring. We are also more likely to achieve them if we have opportunities to support and mentor others. Reciprocity, mutuality and affirming relationships can positively change lives, communities and the world. ‘ Fay’s theme reflects SHIFT’s vision.
The generous support of the community businesses contributed fabulous auction items. The guests opened their pocket-books in support of SHIFT and we raised over $11,000.
Our heartfelt thanks to all who participated in this annual event.
